Here we have a nice crusty original example of an extremely rare territorial coin. Luster and color are still fully present. The toning on this coin is exemplary, especially since this is a gold coin. The toning can be seen all over the coin, most of the toning being concentrated on the reverse around “Half Eagle” This coin is of the plain edge variety, this coin was most likely struck in late May or early June of 1849 in Benicia City, CA. Close to San Francisco these coins were used to supplement the need for gold coinage in the local area.
