A Good Antique U.S. Military Model 1836 Flintlock Service Pistol made by; "R. JOHNSON, MIDDN. CONN. 1843" and converted to percussion for the American Civil War (1860-1865). 8.5" .54 cal. round iron barrel stamped at breech with inspector's marks; "J H" over a "P" with brass blade front sight. 14.5" overall length. The lock is stamped with "US" over "R. JOHNSON" over "MIDDN CONN" over "1843". Captive steel ram rod. Stock has remnants of (2) inspector's cartouche's stamped on the left side of stock at the rear of side plate, and the number "82". The stock is solid with scratches and dings from years of service. All steel parts have areas of salt & pepper pitting which was cleaned and coated with a thin layer of protective clear varnish long ago. A nice example in good working order.
